Krilling It

Antarctica krill is the species that represents the biggest biomass. It's the source of food for many animals, including the gigantic blue whale.
It's also a carbon sink through its digestion.
It eats phytoplancton containing a lot of CO2 and poops out on the deep sea where the carbon is trapped.
Of course, its livelihood is currently threatened by krill trawlers to make supplements. Which also means the livelihood of all the animals that depend on krill to live.
For this painting, I decided to use a picture of buildings from Busan, in South Korea where I did an art residency.
I went with a rainbow color gradient ranging from teal, over green, orange, towards a bright pink.
